Kristina Garcia Szurkus practices in Winderweedle, Haines, Ward and Woodman’s litigation group. Her 15+ years of experience as an attorney give her extensive knowledge of the federal court system and the ability to represent clients in a wide variety of litigation matters, including bankruptcy, white collar crime, healthcare and appellate law.
Prior to joining the firm, Kristina practiced law in San Diego, California where she worked primarily in the areas of white collar criminal defense, false claims, civil rights, and unfair trade practices litigation.
Her federal law experience stems from both client representation before the court and service inside as a career law clerk for the Honorable Emmett R. Cox, Senior Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. She also clerked for the Honorable Karen S. Jennemann, Chief United States Bankruptcy Judge, Middle District of Florida; and the Honorable Arthur B. Briskman and Cynthia C. Jackson, both United States Bankruptcy Judges, Middle District of Florida.
Kristina is admitted to practice law in Florida and California. She received her B.A. in political science, magna cum laude, from Vanderbilt University and her J.D., with distinction, from Emory University School of Law, where she was Editor-in-Chief of the Emory Law Journal. She attended law school as a Robert W. Woodruff Fellow (full tuition merit scholarship). Her academic honors in law school include being named to the Order of the Coif, receiving the Wall Street Journal Award for Academic Excellence, and graduating in the top 6% of her class.
Kristina greatly enjoys travel and has lived abroad in England, Spain, and Iceland.
